Instructions for new residents

VIEWING THE APARTMENT

If you wish, you can visit the apartment offered to you before signing the rental agreement. Check the housing offer you have received to see who will take care of the showing of the apartment. It can be property maintenance in your area or a previous resident. Agree on a suitable time directly with the contact indicated in the offer.

ELECTRICITY – MAKE AN ELECTRICITY CONTRACT

Remember to make an electricity contract or its transfer before moving. Opening an electricity meter urgently may be subject to a fee, so it is advisable to make a new electricity contract as soon as you know about your move.

Contact electricity providers, and make an electricity contract before moving into your rental apartment. An electricity contract is easy to make online in just a few minutes. Prices vary somewhat, so you can compare offers and choose the service provider that suits you best. Examples of options: Lumme Energia Oy (www.lumme-energia.fi), Fortum Oy (fortum.fi), Väre Oy (vare.fi) and many more.

Note! Some student apartments include electricity (e.g. shared and furnished apartments, as well as Raviradantie 17) Check the housing offer/rental agreement to see if electricity is included in the rent. If electricity is not mentioned, the resident must make an electricity contract with the electricity supplier of their choice.

KEYS TO A NEW RESIDENT

The keys to the apartment will be handed over at the apartment at a pre-agreed time. The time must be agreed a few days in advance with the serviceman. Usually, the keys are handed over no earlier than 12 noon on the day of the start of the lease. You can also pick up the keys at a later agreed time by contacting the maintenance man in the area (Mon-Thu 7.00–16.00, Fri 7.00–14.15).

If the start date of the rental agreement is on a weekend or a public holiday, you will receive the keys on the next business day. Be prepared to prove your identity with a photo ID when handing over the keys.

ENTRANCE INSPECTION OF THE APARTMENT

When a resident moves into the apartment, the maintenance carries out the entrance inspection of the apartment together with the resident. A move in check list is filled in with a form by which the resident approves the condition of the apartment.

HOME INSURANCE

Remember to take care of your own home insurance with your insurance company. The property itself is insured against damage with full value insurance taken out by the company, but it does not cover any damage to your personal belongings or other e.g. indirect damage caused by the negligence of the tenant.
